Nicola Wealth Management Ltd. (Nicola Wealth), one of Canada's fastest-growing Private Investment Counsel firms, is proud to announce that two of its exceptional leaders, Danielle Skipp, Managing Director, Ontario & Chief Legal Officer, and Vanessa Flockton, Senior Vice President, Advisory Services | Client Relationship Manager, have been named as winners of the Wealth Professional Top 50 Women in Wealth 2023 award.

The Wealth Professional Top 50 Women in Wealth award celebrates outstanding women who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, expertise, and innovation within the wealth management industry.

Danielle Skipp, Managing Director, Ontario & Chief Legal Officer

In her dual role of Managing Director, Ontario and Chief Legal Officer at Nicola Wealth, Danielle contributes to the identification, development, and execution of Nicola Wealth’s strategic initiatives including the firm’s ongoing national expansion strategy. Prior to joining Nicola Wealth, Danielle worked for the Canadian Banking Association, CIBC, UBS and two private asset management companies navigating legal, regulatory and operational issues increasingly focused on digital innovation.

In addition to her work, Danielle gives back to her profession and her community. In April 2020 she was appointed to serve on the University of Toronto Governing Council. Danielle is the Chair of 100 Women in Finance Canada, a global organization with over 15,000 members committed to empowering women working in the finance industry to achieve their professional potential at each career stage. She is a former Co-Chair of the Manager’s Only Committee for the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA) Canada and continues to contribute to the asset management professional community through speaking engagements at industry conferences. In 2018 Danielle joined the board of directors of Ridge Canada Cyber Solutions, a managing general insurance agency incorporated to provide cyber insurance products, consulting and loss control services to insurance agents and brokers.

Danielle graduated from the University of British Columbia with her LL.B and is called to the bar in both British Columbia and Ontario.

Vanessa Flockton, Senior Vice President, Advisory Services | Client Relationship Manager

Vanessa is a member of the firm’s Senior Leadership team and is personally responsible for the strategic direction of the Advisory Services division. She oversees a team of over 150 wealth advisors, associates, and insurance specialists who are dedicated to providing professionals, entrepreneurs, foundations, and affluent families with integrated strategic financial planning and investment advice.

In addition to her leadership role, Vanessa is an active financial advisor providing strategic advice to professionals, business owners, and high-net-worth individuals. She creates customized financial plans that instill peace of mind for the individuals and families she works with.

With a wide breadth of experience, Vanessa has been in the financial services industry since 1994, beginning her career as a Commercial Account Manager with HSBC Canada and later worked in Human Resources, Operations and as a Branch Manager before becoming a Financial Advisor. Vanessa is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and holds the Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designation. She is also a member in good standing of the Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) and the Financial Advisors Association of Canada (Advocis).

With a keen interest in building diversity and empowering the next generation, Vanessa is a senior sponsor and member of the Nicola Wealth Women’s LEAD Initiative as well as a board member for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. Raised in Ontario, Vanessa graduated with Great Distinction from the Bachelor of Commerce program at McGill University, alongside a minor in Chinese Languages and Literature, in which she spent time studying in China.
