As I reflect on International Women’s Day (IWD), I am reminded of the day's significance and its importance in our daily lives. The work we undertake today will not only affect the women around us but also future generations. To commemorate IWD, I shared a poem from one of my favourite poets with my colleagues:
The poem's message stresses the importance of attaining new heights so that those who come after us can transcend to even greater heights. It is not enough to merely embrace equity; we must also take action and recognize the power of our voice. We need to use our voices boldly and loudly to mentor, sponsor, advocate, and champion women from all diverse backgrounds. To me, this day is a reminder to make a continued commitment each day to stand together, celebrate each other and educate others to learn and unlearn biases. Together, we must amplify our voices and shatter concrete ceilings to unlock new possibilities. The next generation of women is counting on us to elevate them to new levels.
International Women's Day is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It is a day that recognizes the progress that has been made in achieving gender equality, while also acknowledging the work that still needs to be done.
