In September, Nicola Wealth proudly sponsored the Women of Empowerment Awards in Toronto, and I'd like to emphasize the significance of our involvement. I firmly believe that it is upon all of us to act as allies and contribute to empowering girls, young women, and women from diverse backgrounds. Supporting initiatives like these is especially crucial for organizations. With philanthropy and giving back at the core of our values, our ethos strongly aligns with the purpose of these awards.

At Nicola Wealth, we take great pride in the fact that nearly half of our leadership positions are held by women. We also have a robust presence of women Wealth Advisors, and we've established a dedicated committee to champion our Women’s LEAD initiative, which celebrates and uplifts women. Attending the event alongside my colleagues, Wealth Advisor | Client Relationship Manager Jessica Arakgi and Senior Wealth Planning Associate | Client Relationship Manager Vlada Ceban, was a source of immense pride for me.

Recognizing one's achievements, especially as a woman, can be a challenge at times. There's often an inclination to downplay success or even feel the need to apologize for it. This is why we deeply appreciate the Women of Empowerment Awards and their meaningful purpose. These awards provide a powerful platform to celebrate the achievements of women leaders and entrepreneurs who have not only excelled in their careers but have also committed themselves to uplifting others. These awards invite women to celebrate themselves boldly and unapologetically.

It's crucial that young girls and women from all backgrounds can see a path to success, and showcasing these remarkable women sparks inspiration, igniting a sense of wonder—the kind of wonder that unleashes our potential in a world full of possibilities.

Being in a room full of diverse and incredible women was refreshing. Each woman was shining brightly and lifting one another up. Such precious occasions for women to celebrate themselves and each other in such a powerful way are rare. By raising our voices and sharing our stories, we honour the incredible journey we are all on. We connect with one another and inspire future generations. This night was dedicated to celebrating and honouring women's resilience, strength, and achievements. Sharing our struggles and triumphs makes us stronger. It's about lifting as we climb, moving from envy towards empowerment, and being the best cheerleaders for ourselves and others. As women, we possess the superpower and capacity to build community, foster togetherness, and support connection. With our collective power, we are creating ripples of change that will have a profound, long-lasting impact on future generations.

Together, we are unstoppable. Our strength multiplies in numbers, and our unity as a community is more formidable. We are collectively building the power to effect change. As Jully Black eloquently put it at the event, "It’s not about giving from an empty cup, it’s about giving from the overflow." Let's all contribute to empowering women as key changemakers in our communities because empowered women empower other women.

To all the women out there, let's stand together, amplify our voices, be a community of awesomeness, and extend a helping hand to one another. Keep rocking it, keep letting your sparkle shine, and don't let anyone or anything dim your light. Together, we can raise the hill so that others can see further. Be a mentor, be an advocate, be a champion.

Here are the key takeaways from the event that encapsulate the essence of empowerment, community building, and the journey to success:

  1. Give back and share your knowledge and experience with others. Mobilize girls and women to recognize their value as leaders and support their efforts.
  2. Understand that we are all navigating the journey to success, and it's okay not to be okay. Be willing to be vulnerable and ask for help.
  3. Recognize that the climb to success isn't easy. To prevail, we must stand together, linking arms and holding each other's hands. Let us shift from envy to empowerment.
  4. Unapologetically occupy the space you need to be yourself. Have the courage to fearlessly pursue your intentions and believe in your dreams. Assert your worth.
  5. Understand that life is a continuous journey of growth, and we continuously learn from new people we meet. Embrace others with open arms and invite them into your community. This is the beauty of community-building—it never stops evolving.
  6. Remember, you are the light—shine it brightly and never allow anything or anyone to dim your brilliance. Believe in the words of the song, "This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine, let it shine, all the time."

Margaret J. Wheatley aptly stated, "There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about." Let us continue to foster this caring and supportive community.

Lastly, I extend heartfelt congratulations to Yvette Raposo for receiving the Mentorship Award. You can read our article featuring Yvette from the summer here: Embracing the Power of Connection and Empowerment: Yvette Raposo's Journey in Boxing and Beyond.
