We were honoured to have Paulina Cameron moderate our signature Women’s LEAD events in Toronto and Vancouver. As an inspirational role model, Paulina’s magnetic energy and unwavering commitment to empowering women truly set her apart. Her remarkable leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, and advocacy for gender equity have led to significant contributions. To name a few accomplishments, Paulina co-created Young Women in Business (YWiB) and most recently served as the CEO of The Forum, a national organization dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs through education, mentorship, and connections. Earlier this year, Paulina transitioned to her current role as COO at Flytographer, continuing her impactful journey in leadership and innovation.
Legacy is a big word, and Paulina lives up to its meaning. Her personal experiences deeply influence her professional ethos. Sixteen years ago, Paulina recognized a gap in the support available for young women pursuing their ambitions in business. As the visionary leader that she is, she saw the need for a community where women could find mentorship, resources, and a network of like-minded individuals. Fueled by this vision, she founded Young Women in Business (YWiB) and established its first chapter at the University of British Columbia (UBC).
Her dedication laid the groundwork for a movement that has since empowered countless young women to pursue their professional dreams. The UBC chapter of YWiB quickly became a hub for aspiring businesswomen and has grown to nine chapters, over 1,000 members, and 200 mentors nationally, providing a platform for leadership development, networking opportunities, and personal growth.
Fast-forward to today, and Paulina Cameron’s pioneering efforts resonate more powerfully than ever. In a touching moment that encapsulates her journey, she stands alongside Ravnoor Kirk and Katrina Walker, co-presidents of YWiB’s British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) chapter. These dynamic leaders are not only beneficiaries of her foundation but also torchbearers of her legacy, driving YWiB’s mission with unwavering passion and dedication.
This moment is a powerful testament to the lasting influence one person can have. It underscores the importance of visionary leadership and the ripple effect it creates. Paulina’s initial drive to address a missing need has blossomed into a thriving network that continues to inspire and support young women.
The presence of the BCIT co-presidents next to Paulina highlights the continuity of purpose and the enduring relevance of YWiB’s mission. It reminds us that the efforts of one individual can spark a movement, and that movement can sustain and evolve, impacting generations to come. By giving our time to young women through organizations like YWiB, we directly contribute to their future success.
In a world still striving for gender equity, initiatives like YWiB are crucial. By providing young women with the tools, support, and community they need to succeed, we can create a more equitable and inclusive society. These networks empower individuals and challenge systemic barriers, fostering environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Knowing these women and witnessing their full circle moment has fueled my passion to continue reaching back and lifting up others. It inspires me, and hopefully all of us, to drive forward change. By supporting and uplifting each other, we create more opportunities, leading to a world where gender equality is the norm, not the exception.
The legacy of YWiB is one of empowerment, growth, and unending potential. It calls on us to continue the work of those who came before us, to support those who stand with us, and to inspire those who will follow. Together, we can ensure that the vision of a more equitable world becomes a reality.
Paulina’s story is a powerful example of how one individual's vision and dedication can drive significant change, inspiring others to pursue their goals and contribute to creating a more equitable world.
