In July of 2022, fresh out of university, I joined Nicola Wealth as a Wealth Planning Associate Intern for a one-year internship. I had the opportunity to work alongside some of the most experienced and knowledgeable professionals in the wealth management industry.
Contrary to the conventional notion of internships involving mundane and repetitive tasks, my experience at Nicola Wealth was remarkably fruitful. I was fortunate to delve into various aspects of wealth planning, from client relationship management, cash management, registered contributions, estate planning, insurance planning, and more. However, the most rewarding part was the chance to work directly with clients, gaining an understanding of their unique financial situations and goals. This exposure helped me develop a deep appreciation for the importance of providing client-centric service.
Working in such a dynamic and fast-paced environment, I occasionally felt overwhelmed by the wide range of tasks entrusted to me. However, it was precisely this feeling that made the experience so exciting, as I learned to think, organize, self-reflect, and most importantly, grow. Instead of merely carrying out tasks, I was encouraged to ask questions and learn the "whys" behind those tasks. In fact, growth is what makes the people at Nicola Wealth so special - everyone is constantly learning, adapting, improving, and reaching higher ground.
I consider myself incredibly lucky to be a part of the supportive and collaborative culture at Nicola Wealth. From day one, I was welcomed into a team that was passionate about helping clients achieve their financial goals. I was encouraged to ask questions, share my ideas, and actively contribute to the success of the team. The wealth of opportunities for learning and growth within the company is remarkable. Whether it was participating in happy hours, lunchtime learning sessions, or the WPA summit—an event that brought Wealth Planning Associates together for team-building activities. Being an intern is all about seizing the chance to absorb, and I am thankful for the opportunity to learn from the Nicola team.
