On Wednesday, September 28th, Nicola Wealth Real Estate brought together a panel of experienced real estate executives to share their perspectives on the industry’s present state.
To kick off the program, Wealth Advisor – Client Relationship Manager, Ethan Astaneh, presented a macro-economic overview of the factors that are top of mind for investors as they navigate volatility in the investment landscape.
In a session moderated by Nicola Wealth Real Estate Managing Director, Mark Hannah, a panel of experts in the Canadian real estate market weighed in on the impact of current and future market trends and major disruptors to the real estate environment, such as rising interest rates, development cost creep and supply chain issues, and approvals and permitting.

Ethan Astaneh
Wealth Advisor | Client Relationship Manager
Ethan is a Wealth Advisor in the firm’s Vancouver office. He provides strategic advice to high net worth business owners, professionals, and retirees, and offers his clients a wide range of financial services, including; retirement income planning, business succession, and continuation planning, investment management, tax and estate planning, charitable giving, and intergenerational wealth transfer.
Ethan holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the UBC Sauder School of Business with a double specialization in Finance and Mathematics. He is also the Treasurer of the Financial Planning Association of Canada and a member of FP Canada and the Family Enterprise Xchange.
Mark Hannah
Managing Director, Nicola Wealth Real Estate
Mark is responsible for the 3 Real Estate Funds at Nicola Wealth. He started in commercial real estate in 1981 and has over 40 years’ experience in the brokerage industry. In 1994, he helped establish the Vancouver office of Avison Young Commercial Real Estate, an employee-owned company that has now grown significantly to a worldwide commercial brokerage company.
Mark has extensive experience in sales and leasing of commercial real estate and served as the company’s Managing Director of the Vancouver office. This experience has proven invaluable in his current role at Nicola Wealth.
Mark has also served for nine years as a Board of Director for the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation and served on the Executive Committee as well as several capital fundraising campaigns. Mark resides in West Vancouver and is married with four adult children.
Adam Lazier
Partner Northbridge Capital
In 2016 Michael & Adam Lazier founded Northbridge for the purpose of building a real estate investment platform that focuses on value-add investing. Today the company manages over $1B in assets throughout North America in partnership with select institutions and high net worth private investors. Adam is currently a Partner with Northbridge and oversees acquisitions and capital raising across the business.
Prior to founding Northbridge, Adam joined Slate Asset Management LP in 2006 as one of the first employees and was a key contributor to the team that helped build the firm into a globally recognized asset manager. While at Slate Adam contributed to the creation of Slate U.S. Retail REIT, Slate Office REIT, Slate Advisors, and executed the asset management of a value add office portfolio in partnership with Blackstone.
Prior to joining Slate, Adam worked at CBRE from 2000 to 2006 on the capital markets investment team, advising clients on the purchase and disposition of real estate assets across Canada. Adam has over 22 years of experience across all major real estate asset classes throughout North America.
Andre Mihelic
Executive Vice President, First Gulf
Andre Mihelic has worked in the Commercial Real Estate industry for over 25 years and has a diversified range of experience in finance, acquisitions, development, and construction. Andre and has worked with some of Canada's leading real estate firms including Minto, RioCan, SmartCentres and First Gulf Corporation. As Executive Vice President, Andre leads all aspects of project underwriting and financing while also overseeing the operations and property management at First Gulf. Andre holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Carleton University, an MBA from York University, a Professional Engineers Ontario designation, and a CFA license.
Jaime McKenna
Managing Director, Group Head of Real Estate, Fengate
Jaime McKenna is the Managing Director, Group Head of Real Estate at Fengate. She is responsible for all aspects of Fengate’s real estate group including asset management, development, investment, financial reporting and governance. Fengate has been successful in growing its real estate portfolio through land entitlement, development and core strategies to over $10B in completed value across 75 projects, including over 11,000 residential units and 5M square feet of industrial space under various stages of stabilization and development.
Prior to joining Fengate, Jaime was Chief Investment Officer of Minto Apartment REIT where she was part of the executive team that led the initial public offering as well as the follow-on equity offering in April 2019.
Jaime is a member of several boards including: REALPAC, Trent University and Seasons’ Retirement Homes, as well as a member of Marlin Spring’s advisory committee. Jaime holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with honours, and has Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Business Valuator and Institute of Corporate Director designations.
Ugo Bizzarri
Managing Partner & CEO, Hazelview Investments
Ugo Bizzarri co-founded Timbercreek Asset Management in 1999 and is now the Managing Partner & Chief Executive Officer of Hazelview Investments. In his role as Chief Executive Officer, Ugo leads a team of over 600 individuals located across 19 offices in Canada, the United States, Europe and Hong Kong who collectively contribute towards the management of over $9 billion in real estate investments.
Ugo has over 25 years of experience in the real estate industry. Prior to founding Hazelview Investments, Ugo was in portfolio management at OTPPB where he played a leadership role in the strategic planning, corporate transactions/restructuring and property acquisitions for the real estate group.
Ugo also sits on the Board of Directors of Cymbria and Autism Speaks Canada. Ugo is a graduate of the Ivey School of Business and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
