Nicola Wealth Management helps raise over $10,000 for Opportunity International

Over the years, Nicola Wealth Management and our charitable giving committee have chosen to support Opportunity International. This organization’s outstanding work in developing countries continues to inspire us.

Last week NWM sponsored O.I.’s Okanagan Chef’s Table Event which took place at the stunning Poplar Grove Winery in Penticton, BC.

Founded in 1971, Opportunity International provides access to savings, small business loans, insurance, and training to over five million people working their way out of poverty in the developing world. Clients in more than 20 countries use these financial services to start or expand a business, provide for their families, create jobs for their neighbours and build a safety net for the future.

Opportunity International

At last weekend’s event, an intimate group of people from across the Okanagan region were brought together to learn more about Opportunity International and their efforts. Amongst the picturesque setting at Poplar Grove, attendees enjoyed a Chef’s Table dinner with the winery’s proprietor Dr. Tony Holler, who graciously donated the venue for the dinner. It quickly became obvious the power shared ideas can have among a small, but enthusiastic group. The Chef’s Table was an amazing event with some incredible outcomes including new friendships, knowledge, and, of course, growing support for Opportunity International.

To foster the culture of giving, NWM offered to match donations made that evening. The result was the group raising a grand total of over $10,000 for the cause. These funds will provide almost 200 loans per year, impacting nearly 1000 people’s loves.

Thank you to Jamie Hubick and Opportunity International for the event and your continued efforts to help build small businesses in developing countries.
