Simon Carlsen, Senior Director & Head, Mortgage Investments
Simon specializes in real estate debt investments at Nicola Wealth. With a background in mortgage banking and commercial real estate advisory, he is responsible for the firm’s mortgage investments and manages our pooled mortgage funds.
Previous work experience includes roles with national and boutique mortgage lenders and a real estate consultancy in Canada and internationally.
Having provided conventional, high yield, and mezzanine real estate debt investments to institutional and private investors, Simon draws on his experience to evaluate new investment opportunities and manage credit risk.
Simon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Economics, a Diploma in Business Administration, and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Real Property Valuation.
Jurgen van Vuuren, Senior Director & Head, Private Debt
Jurgen joined Nicola Wealth in January 2020. Prior to joining the firm he spent six years at a major Canadian chartered bank as a Director in Leveraged Finance where he was primarily responsible for origination, structuring and execution of senior and mezzanine debt financings in support of mid-market leveraged buyouts and other event-based transactions across Western Canada and the United States.
Jurgen started his career in financial statement audit at a big four accounting firm working in both Vancouver and the Cayman Islands with a focus on clients in the asset management sector. He is a graduate of the Bachelor of Commerce program at the University of British Columbia and holds the Chartered Accountant and Chartered Professional Accountant designations.

Ethan is a Financial Advisor in the firm’s Vancouver office.
