Getting Back Together for Team Bonding
We have all experienced the challenges of working remotely and the absence of regular in-person face-to-face interactions. Recognizing the need for a solution that would bridge the gap of working remotely by creating/maintaining connections, our team of Financial Planning Associates (FPAs) introduced a friendly competition, called FPA Connect. A weekly team bonding event aimed to bring remote workers closer together through a casual and friendly competition.
Striking the balance between workload and fun, the rules were simple and the focus was two-pronged: continue to strengthen an already robust team culture and help integrate new additions to the team via regular communication, social outings, and friendly banter via Microsoft Teams. With this clear directive, the growing group of FPAs formed four teams and got creative.
FPA Connect featured:
1. A weekly “contest” was announced early each week. The challenges were simple tasks that were not time-consuming but encouraged collaboration and teamwork. Some examples of the weekly contests were:
- a. Creating a team name/banner that incorporated Nicola Wealth into the final product. The winning team is shown below:
- b. Once restrictions were eased, there were bonus points for an in-person meetup
- c. A typing test
- d. Best recipe
Aside from analyzing portfolios, the team also took some time to analyze the tight race between the teams. The results, and scoring race progression, as tabulated by an independent auditor, not too dissimilar to those responsible for the Academy Awards or the Grammy Awards, can be seen below:
Finally, if you are looking to try a new sport – consider axe throwing! The team got together a few weeks ago and have crowned a new axe throwing champion!
